Vice President for Events Candidate

Pacis, Charles Keith Darrel C.

Goals

My goals for the term are simple: to sustain what is already working and to make changes only where they are truly needed. So far, what I see in the current Events department is that it is organized and reliable. The current VP for Events has done many things well, which makes it difficult for me to identify major changes that need to be made. Because of this, my main goal for my term is to sustain the current structure while improving the overall culture within the department, so that we can build stronger bonds among TLOs, BETAs, and their fellow officers. I want the Events Cluster to be a cluster that is not only about handling events, but also one that makes its officers feel at home. I agree with the current VP that the experience is not just about work, but also about the meaning and fulfillment that come with it. It is about the fulfillment you feel after the work is done, the joy that comes from seeing an event succeed, and the comfort of knowing that you were able to do your part well. That is why, instead of focusing mainly on making the workflows better within Events, I want to sustain what is already effective and improve it in a way that creates a better working environment—not only for Events officers, but also for other clusters. I want it to be a space where officers can find a sense of fulfillment that helps ease the stress of the work they do.

Platforms

I can achieve those goals through the position I am aspiring for by using the role not only as a way to oversee the operational side of Events, but also as a way to shape the kind of experience people will have within the cluster. Since the current systems and workflows of the department are already organized and reliable, I do not think that my term should focus on changing things just for the sake of having something new. Instead, I want to use the position to sustain what is already effective while becoming more intentional in building a healthier, more supportive, and more fulfilling culture for everyone in Events. I believe that as VP, one of the biggest things I can do is set the tone for how people work, communicate, and grow together, and that is something I want to maximize throughout my term.

My proposed strategy is centered on strengthening internal relationships, making officers feel more supported in their work, and creating a department culture that values both output and experience. One thing I really want to focus on is becoming a leader who is not only seen as a boss, but also as someone officers can comfortably approach and feel close to, while still maintaining the proper boundaries needed in the position. I believe that when people feel more at ease with the people they work with, they become more encouraged to show up, contribute, and stay engaged in the work that they do. Because of this, I want to create a culture where officers feel that Events is not just a place where tasks are assigned, but also a space where they are valued and where they can enjoy the experience of working with others.

To support this, I want to encourage more participation and stronger involvement through simple but meaningful efforts such as team bonding activities, small incentives, and other ways of making officers feel appreciated for the work they do. These do not have to be grand gestures, but even small things can help make people feel seen and motivated, especially during demanding projects and event seasons. Alongside this, I also want to make sure that officers from TLOs to BETAs feel guided and supported in their roles by being present, approachable, and intentional in how I lead them. I also hope to strengthen collaboration not only within Events, but also with other clusters, so that the work environment becomes lighter, smoother, and more positive for everyone involved.
