Vice President for Events candidate

Santos, Julian Benedict L.

Vision

Through utilizing information technology, I would like MISA to especially give a home to students, to especially build students’ leadership and various skills, to contribute to the development of sectors and to the recognition of information technology talent, and to help prepare students for life beyond university, essentially being a model in terms of information technology competence.

Platforms

Events in this case play an essential role since they could do multiple things at once for their stakeholders. To give a home to students, I would like to propose Jumpstart, General Assembly [Required], DISCS Olympics, and Year-End Project [Required]. To build leadership and various skills, I would like to propose Leadership Development Bootcamp. To contribute to the development of sectors and to the recognition of information technology talent, I would like to propose CoLab and IM Summit. And finally, to help prepare students for life beyond university, I would like to propose HEX and Career Fair and/or Networking Night. For HEX, I would like to propose a more skill-building-based approach (e.g., resume writing, UX/UI, etc.) to switch it up and maybe provide more value to members. Collaborations with other organizations and alumni would be explored should opportunities in the events arise. To the best of my abilities, all events would be spread out throughout the school year, considering the academic calendar, possible overlaps, and other factors, and the observance of the calendar, especially at the start, would be more stern when possible. Furthermore, I would focus on a less transactional environment for all events. I would consider more time for bonding activities when calendaring as well. I would try better deployments too, considering both officers’ interested events and skills. To reduce role confusion, I would discourage BETA to be third-level officers and together with EB, we would review positions if needed. Events BETA would have weekly meetings—onsite if possible, but online can be resorted to. The goals would be to check in with how BETA themselves are doing, to supervise properly and accordingly, and to discuss concerns. With Events BETA, we would try to strike a balance in management of the third-level officers; this would be to still grant them opportunities to practice their roles and gain relevant knowledge and experiences. Lastly, we would find ways to appeal to being an officer through incentives. For example, core team shirts could be a potential, as they are exclusive to officers only.
